Writer's Stew

Everything About Nothing!

"This is an ezine about nothing in particular. There are no set themes, there is no genre, no cubbyhole in which to fit us. As a matter of fact, the first person that tries to put us in a genre will get thumped via their Internet connection."

The Head Chef Speaks...

Wow...after four months of planning, schemeing and pulling out my hair, here it is: the first edition of Writer's Stew.

To say this ezine was a labor of love would be the understatment of all time. It seemed like a good idea at the time I mentioned it to a friend of mine (Hi Lisa...I know you are reading this! <grin>).

So, you are probably wondering where the idea for this 'zine came from. At least those of you who emailed me and asked me. Well, here it is: the story of the birth of Writer's Stew.

The 'zine is the product of lack of sleep mixed with the influence of a beverage...kinda like my daughter...ha ha. Seriously though, it was a late-night in December. I was trolling the Internet, searching for markets for my writing and was striking out with every click of the mouse. I began to wonder how many other writers wrote quirky things and had difficulty finding a home for their creations. As the evening wore on, the idea that there should be a "special place" for the quirky writings of the world (other than the seventh ring of hell or the farthest-most corner of Siberia depending on your personal taste for heat or cold). Being the kinda gal that can't ignore a good idea (remember, it was 3am and I was on a caffeine buzz!), I started planning the pages that you are reading today.

Where did the stew / food theme come from? Well, I have two passions: writing and cooking. Since the premise of the 'zine was a variety of genres and subjects, a stew popped into my mind. The rest was the product of two other warped minds: Jennifer (who you will read about later in her column, "...Says the Sous Chef" and the above-mentioned Lisa, who prefers to stay in the background..peeling onions. I told you she was warped.

So, that, in a serving dish, is how Writer's Stew came to be. I hope you enjoy the 'zine as much as we enjoy putting it together.

Enjoy!
